Picobello Ristorante Italiano

Picobello 1a

Nestled at the 5th floor of Gaisano South Citimall is a gem of a restaurant called Picobello. They serve authentic Italian food including pizzas cooked in a wood fired oven. Even some of their entrees are cooked in that same oven.

Once we finished ordering we were served complementary appetizers. Since we were having lunch we got 2 pieces of bread with salami and tomato sauce. They serve a different appetizer during dinner, bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. All the bread they serve is baked in the restaurant itself.

We started the meal with my favourite, Calamari Fritti, squid and onion rings battered and fried with a siding of salsa. The squid was battered just enough and fried perfectly. Squeeze the calamansi to give it a little zest or add the salsa for a wonderful mix.

I ordered the Quattro Formaggio pizza, consisting of gorgonzola, mozzarella, parmesan and ricotta cheese sprinkled with chopped basil. The 4 cheeses create a great blend with every bite. I only order this if there are a couple of people to share it with since I can only eat a few slices before I become overwhelmed with the cheeses.

Lauren’s order came next, Costolleta di Miale, porkchop marinated in fresh herbs and olive oil cooked in the oven, with steamed vegetables and plain rice as sidings. She finished almost the whole order including the rice.

Irene had Costine Picobello, marinated frilled spareribs. They use the same marinate for the porkchop and the spareribs. She shared some with me, we’ve eaten here countless time but this is the first time I tried the spareribs since I don’t really like bones. They were flavorful and grilled perfectly. I devoured the baked potato sidings, which are my favourite. I love potatoes, in any form.

Out of all the things we ordered, the Calamari Fritti and the vegetables are the only ones not cooked in the wood fired oven. The oven imparts an aroma and taste that can not be duplicated by ordinary ovens.

Picobello also has a wonderful afternoon promo available from 2-5pm, its Buy 1 Take 1 Pizza. It’s available for dine in only and is applicable to any of their pizza variants.
