Tucked away among the many drinking establishments in Ortigas Home Depot is a sandwich place with a Filipino twist. The Bread Bag bills itself as a pandesal bar, using the breakfast staple in lieu of the white bread of many sandwich places.
I find it hard to order here since I like alost everything on the menu. They logo of Casa Marcos; an old Spanish restaurant that closed down in 2000; since they use the same recipe for the pandesal. You can even just buy the pandesal for takeout.

I finally decided on Pan ala Cubana, the sunny side egg just calls out to me.The pandesal is huge, with lots of the sauteed beef with onions, raisins and fried banana underneath. Sweet potato chips (kamote) was served on the side. I loved this but be warned that it will be hard to eat with your hands. I eventually had to resort to using the knife and fork because the egg yolk drenched the pandesal.
Irene ordered her favorite Adobo with Kesong Puti. I had a bite of this and it was really good and I felt even better than my own order. I'm sometimes leery of ordering Adobo things since some places use lots of vinegar in their versions, but his one just had a slight taste that enhances the meat.
I was surprised that the place now serves wine and beer as well as tapas to go with them. I guess this is to cater to the night time drinking crowd. Looking at the tapas menu, I could not resist ordering the Calamares, but I did not like it at all. The dish looked nice and even included some sliced pandesal (a novel touch) but the taste did not match it. I guess I will stick to their bread and butter, no pun intended.
We had this meal for lunch and found it quite filling. While finishing up my meal I saw a poster on the wall of a Pandesal Ice Cream, 2 slices of french toast pandesal with ice cream in between and topped with caramel sauce. If only I was not so full, I would definitely order this next time.
