Flavors of Thailand

Chef Thanatorn Krobsuay with Pad Thai ingredients
I was invited to the Marriott Hotel's Flavors of Thailand buffet at their Marriot Cafe. This festival will be held from August 1 to 31 only. They flew in Chef Thanatorn Krobsuay of JW Marriott Bangkok to showcase the beauty and diversity of flavor of Thai cuisine. The buffet consists of the usual hotel buffet stations with the addition of the Thai section made up of 3 appetizers, 1 soup, 6 entrees and 2 desserts.

I began the meal with a nice coconut cream based soups with mushrooms and prawns. Usually this soup has a bright orange color because of the chili paste they add but Chef Krobsuay's version is almost all white except for the occasional color from the shrimp and mushroom. Despite not seeing the chili paste, the soup still has the spicy kick to it, though not overly spicy for my light tolerance.

Glass Noodle Salad w/ Seafood

I proceeded to try the 3 featured appetizers; of the three I liked the Tropical Pomelo Salad the best, it was very refreshing and was not too spicy. I was not able to finish the glass noodle salad since it was even spicier than the soup.

Green Curry Chicken
Among the entree, I like the Pad Thai and Green Curry Chicken the best. The chicken was very flavorful and it beats the one I had at Jatujak out of the water. The pad thai was made by Chef Krobsuay per platter beside the serving area. The noodles were al dente although I might have left them a little too long in my plate because when I got to it, they were kinda cold though that did not deter from the taste.

Lemon Lime Ice Cream
I had two desserts, only one of which was part of the buffet, I forgot to get the name actually but it is reminiscent of ginatan but only creamier and containing only banana. The lemon lime ice cream is available from the deli besides Marriott Cafe. I love ice cream and the tarty taste was a perfect palate cleanser after the flavorful meal.

Hurry and try out the buffet priced at P1350 nett for adults and P675 nett for children. Sunday brunch is P1650 nett, children below 12 are charged half while those under 6 are free. Diner's who avail of the buffet get a chance to win a pair of round trip tickets to Thailand. Another benefit to diners is the chance to join the cooking class to be led by Chef Krobsuay on August 12 at 2:30pm.
