The place has a nice feel with the big glass windows and high ceilings, it actually looked like a loft with its semi private are on the second floor.Since I was early, I choose a nice comfy table at the side which feature a big couch.
They had prepared a four course set dinner for the event. Although at present all the items served were not on the menu, the owners said they were going to be incorporating all of the items in the new menu.
We started off with with soup, Courgette Flower Crisp with Roasted Bacon and Basil Broth. This seems a lot like a Japanese dish with a twist, kinda like a tempura soup. The presence of the naruto maki, which is the pink and white fish cake serving as a garnish on the shooter container of the broth. There also a tiny triangle of radish and ginger that is usually put into the tempura dipping sauce. The broth was very flavorful while the the batter was still crispy even though they were not hot anymore. I like the smoky crispy texture of the bacon in contrast to the tempura like batter of the courgette, both washed down by the broth.
Appetizer in the form of Caramelized Grilled Pork and Rice Noodle Salad. This dish reminded me of the noodle salad I had at Marriot's Thai festival. The spiciness of this dish is lower replaced by some sweetness while the caramelized pork reminded me of a cross between barbecue and tocino.
Then for the main course, Tamarind Prawns and Green Mango Fried Rice. Another obviously Thai inspired dish, but the green mango salad is a misnomer because I felt it was just the topping. I felt the fried rice was more of a Thai bagoong fried but the green mango topping and the tamarind shrimps matched the rice well.
And finally, to cap a great meal, Pandan Bukayo with Spicy Ginger Ice Cream for dessert. This was the first time I tried bukayo since I had this preconception that is was super sweet. Lu's version which the make themselves from young coconut had just enough sweetness with the added pandan flavor. I loved the ginger ice cream even though I stay away from ginger, the calling of ice cream is greater. Sweet and spicy flavor combine to create a nice palette cleanser.
Although most of the dishes came out only warm and not hot. I chalk this up to being an event and having to plate a lot of servings in advance. I looked at their regular menu and saw a few items that piqued my interest.
