Manila's Signature Dishes 2010 : Moomba Bar Café

Moomba Bar Café features live music paired with great food in a relaxing atmosphere in accessible Roces St. in Quezon City. As part of Manila's Signature dishes 2010, Chef Jimmy Jardiniano, executive chef of Moomba Bar, assembled a set based around the healthy ostrich meat.

For appetizer, there is a choice between Deep Fried Rillet of Chicken with Tomato Salsa or Fruited Crabstick Salad with Orange Chantilly.  The chicken rillet is basically minced chicken put together into a roll and then deep fried. Although its deep fried its not oily and it is complimented by the spicy salsa made with pickled sili labuyo (local red chili pepper). The small chips add a nice crunch to the appetizer.

The crabstick salad is for those who want a more refreshing start to the meal. The fruits are tossed in light orange cream dressing and topped with pulled apart crabstick.

Tian of Ostrich and Julienned Vegetables, a Moomba bestseller, served as the main course. I love ostrich meat because it is a much healthier alternative to beef. It tastes like beef but its fat content is even smaller than skinless turkey meat. The tian reminded me somewhat of shepherd's pie in that it has a mashed potatoes topping and is baked but is usually made with minced lamb or beef. I could not get enough of this dish, I even finished off all the vegetables.

Panna Cotta with Mango Ganache was served for dessert. What made this was different was the mango carmel sauce that made a nice sweet compliment to the creamy panna cotta.

Looking for a place to unwind but not willing to have sub par food, Moomba Bar is a place you should try out. It's quite big with ample parking spaces available in addition to the live entertainment.
