Papa John's Pizza Manila

Papa John 4

Papa John's Pizza, one of the largest pizza chains in the USA finally finds its way to the country. Its first branch recently opened in Robinson's Galleria. One lunch, our foursome went to try out how good Papa John's pizza really is and how true their slogan "better ingredients, better pizza" really is.

Located at the new Robinson's Galleria Veranda, the indoor space is kinda small, able to accommodate about 40 people only. Our table was kinda cramped and near the door so when anyone opens it, warm air rushes in. The space is nice although I saw three different kinds of chairs, a curious thing for a new store. The inside is dominated by a big bricked arched decorated wall where you can see the kitchen.

Potato Wedges (P90). Nothing special with their fries, you could better and cheaper fries elsewhere.

Papa John 1

Chicken and Mushroom Calzone (P160. Its basically pizza turned inside out with the dough on the outside and shaped in a half moon shape. I ate a piece of this and found the chicken and mushroom was very good

Papa John 6

Chicken Wings (P169). 4 pieces of wings, in actuality is 2 whole wings cut into two. This was served with BBQ sauce, the chicken pieces were ok in size and are very juicy. This one is quite expensive, since you could get 6 pieces at Charlie's Grind and Grill at almost the same prize and its served with veggies to boot. Skip this.

Baked Italian Meatballs (P140) 5 Meatballs baked in tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. The meatballs actually look puny in relation to the plate, as you can see. They could have presented this one better by using a smaller so that it does not look too bare. The meatballs were very tasty and full of flavor though.

Super Papa's Pizza Medium 12" (P440). Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Chicken roll, olives, bell pepper on top of their special dough. It's also served with Jalapeno and garlic butter sauce. The toppings tasted plain, I'm guessing maybe there was not enough tomato sauce, but after adding the garlic butter sauce it became so good. I also loved the dough that I ate all the crust ends, which I usually leave behind when eating thick pizzas.

The pizza dough is really good and you can taste it in each slice. I'm excited to try the other pizza options they have on the menu but will stay away from the wings and fries, should have known not to order that in a pizza parlor.

So head on out to visit Papa John's at Robinson's Galleria Veranda or their upcoming branches in Greenhills and UM Mall in Taft.
