Hello Kitty Sweets Café in Taipei, Taiwan

HK Sweets 3

While researching where to go during our recent Taipei trip, I stumbled upon Hello Kitty Sweets Café. I immediately told Lauren and Irene about it and printed out the map and put it on our itinerary.

Fast forward to our Taipei trip, we took a cab to the café since I'm not familiar with Taipei.

Night shot since I forgot to take a pic when we got there
We got there around 3:30pm but had to wait almost 15 minutes since the café was full (both floors). When we finally got a table, we were informed by the server that there is a NT$300 (P450) minimum consumption per person even kids. So with the 4 of us, we had to order at least NT$1,200, a little high but you're paying for the ambiance and novelty.

We were informed that they had afternoon sets so we got 3 sets (cake and a drink) as well as 2 extra cakes to be able to reach the minimum spend amount.

This cake slice is kinda like a layer cake with fruits and cream in the middle and a large strawberry on top. It was not bad but nothing exceptional.

HK Sweets 5

This was a custard like tart with a strawberry on top again as well as a cute Hello Kitty face made of chocolate. I like the custard inside, not too sweet like most everything in Taipei.

 HK Sweets 7

Lauren's choice. A chocolate mousse dome that she found a little on the dark chocolate side, she prefers chocolate of the milky variety. It had a nice colored powdered sugar imprint of Hello Kitty on the plate.

 HK Sweets 6

Chocolate shake, not really sure since the menu is in Chinese and its kinda hard for Irene to understand some of the complicated stuff. There's a cute Hello Kitty chocolate on top, but did not pass Lauren's test for yummyness.

HK Sweets 9

G's choice, cheesecake. This cake had a nice texture with a light cheese taste making it less heavy that American cheesecakes. G paired her cake with a cup of hot latte (1st picture).

My drink was a strawberry ice cream soda. A scoop of strawberry ice cream shared the top billing with a frozen strawberry Hello Kitty ice cube. Its kinds weird at first but once you dunk the ice cream in, the drink became very unique.

HK Sweets 2

My dessert choice was a strawberry pudding with white chocolate inside and sitting on top of a graham cracker, served again with powered sugar dusted fresh fruit slices. I like my dessert a lot but would have preferred they left out the white chocolate since the pudding was delicious for me.

HK Sweets 12

Complimentary Hello Kitty Strawberry Jelly. this was again not too sweet and the jelly was just right while the strawberry taste was just right and not too overpowering.

None of the desserts were what we would describe as knockouts, they were all quite ok. If we had known about the minimum spending per person we would have went there on a less full stomach. We were not able to finish most of the desserts.

All of my companions are Hello Kitty fans, even me to some extent since I've been buying Hello Kitty stuff for Lauren since she was born, so a trip here is a no brainer. The novelty of the decor is really what we paid for since the food is not the main purpose. Be sure to take lots of photos like we did, the servers will not mind, since all their patrons are doing it all over the store. We all enjoyed our experience especially G and Lauren.

Hello Kitty fans, be sure to put this place on your itinerary for your visit to Taipei. It would be better to have your hotel make a reservation for you to avoid waiting, since a lot of people go there in the afternoon, locals and tourists alike.

  8. So this is Hello Kitty Cafe! I love Lauren's choice of cake. Surprising though because I would've thought it's too black for her aesthetic appreciation. :D

Lovely photos of the food and they all look so cute. And I agree, you come here for the novelty so I'm also okay with the price. :)
