A couple of us got an invite to sample the food at Pedeli's Gourmet Kitchen, another sandwich place soon after Chuck's Deli. So off we went to their space in Cityland Pioneer, which is quite small, able to accommodate around 5 people for dine in only but they are open to delivery and takeout.
Their claim to fame is their Supreme sandwiches, which is 3 slices of bread that has ham, cheese and sliced eggs in addition to the main ingredient of the sandwich. All their products are made to order including soups and pastas so you can be sure everything tastes fresh.
Hungarian Supreme Big (P145) Slices of Hungarian sausage baked in the oven topped with lettuce, mayo and apple slices. The apple slices actually took me by surprise, I think this adds a nice crunch to their sandwiches since all the ingredients are soft.
Bacon Supreme Big (P145) Freshly cooked sliced bacon, not the crispy kind here but still smoky good as it matches the soft sandwich.
Tuna Supreme Big (P145). Tuna chunks is the main ingredient in this one. I did not really like this one since I felt the tuna was overwhelmed by the extra supreme ingredients at the bottom.
Basil Pesto w/ Crabstick (P90+40) Crabstick was added on top of the basil pesto pasta. I'm not really a pesto lover so wouldn't know if it was very good, but my companions quickly wolfed it down. I think that would be an indication of how good it is. I don't think the crabstick added much to the dish except made it pretty as the red and white crabstick looked great against the greenish background. The pesto pasta is not overly oily so that was a big plus for me.
Creamy Linguine w/ Chicken (P90+P40). I liked this more since my wife doesn't cook cream based pasta dishes at home, sticking to her tomato based stuff only (will blog about this next time). The cream was just right, not too heavy to make you get "umay" (fed up). I again felt the chicken add on was superficial and the plain pasta would have suited me just fine. I actually would have preferred it to have used spaghetti instead of the linguine, a personal preference for thinner pasta.
Special Sodas (P40). Pedeli's has some soda to wash down your sandwiches but these are not the run of the mill stuff. They have Mello Yello (Coke's version of Mountain Dew), Cherry Coke, Cherry 7-up, A&W cream Soda and A&W Rootbeer.
Oatmeal Chip Cookie (P15/each). Oatmeal and chocolate chip mixed together. For chocolate lovers this one will hit the spot with generous white and dark chocolate chips inside the chewy cookie. I would have wanted less chocolate and more oatmeal but that's my personal preference.
Who would have though a little shop tucked away at the back of a building would serve such wonderful sandwiches that are much much better than Oliver's.I suggest that you give them a try either through delivery or drop by their little nook and tell me about your experience.
