After the big food fest in Taipei we headed to Bistecca the night we arrived back home, the date was already set for a dinner with Chris and Jane a couple of weeks before to tackle their famous Bistecca 122, a kilogram of beefy goodness.
Basket of bread and Salad. The salad was complimentary offering by the head waiter for the sins of one of their waiters that had Jane in a bad mood, this all happened before we got to the restaurant.
Bistecca 122 ( P3540/1.2 kilos). Aged USDA prime Rib-eye roast. Rib eye is my favorite cut of beef since it has quite tender meat interspersed with lots of marbling. We had the steak cooked medium, a little more than their recommended medium rare. It was a humongous piece of meat that they can cut at the side or you can cut it up yourselves. We chose to deffer to their expert cutting hands and had it done on the side.
Three different salts were served on the side, truffle salt, chili salt and another one I seem to have forgotten. Among the three, I was surprised that I liked the chili salt the best. It gave a nice zing to the beef drizzled on top.
They also had a few sauces they asked us to choose from, I picked the peppercorn sauce and also had a little olive oil drizzled on the plate. The beef was really tender and flavorful, and the slightly charred outer later giving a nice smoky flavor.
Cheese Spatzle (P220). A macaroni like dish made from eggs and flour with cheese added throughout, looks like their version of mac and cheese. Its not bad but I liked the simpler taste of the one from Magyar more.
Truffle French Fries (P220). The fries were home-made and are real potatoes, not the commercial kind. They were slightly crispy and drizzled with generous amount of truffle salt, which Lauren hated, so the plate was moved as far away from her as possible. The fries were ok for but nothing special especially for the price.
Duck Confit (P850). Irene's order since she does not eat beef. She liked this a lot but said she wished it was a larger portion of duck.
A nice dinner despite the service hiccup earlier in the evening. The head waiter was especially attentive but we would have liked to avoid any special attention thought in the first place.
The steak was good but the prices are a little on the high side for me. I could get a steak from Santi's downstairs and have Irene cook it and have it almost the same just without the ambiance and the extra sauces.
Don't let the price stop you and a couple of friends from enjoying the place and food though.
