Shi Lin in Podium

Shi Lin is a relatively new restaurant in Podium, of which I have heard some good and bad things. When Grace wanted to have dinner at a new place we haven't tried before, we agreed on Shi Lin. We arrived at Shi Lin first, and had a choice of tables since it was quite early, around 6:30pm.

The place has a nice long corridor, where you can see the xiao long bao construction area, leading to the main dining area, like a big dipper shape. The decor was mainly brown and beige, but the tabletops were really ugly, a busy pattern that is almost similar to the flooring.

While waiting for Grace, we browsed the simple menu, debating on what to order. We just cam from a children's party so was a little full and just wanted light stuff. Grace arrived soon after that and we proceeded to order.

Shilin 02

Noodles with Sesame and Peanut Sauce (P130). A nice looking dish, but when we were about to mix it up, we found it lacking sauce so we had to request some more from the staff. The three of us did not like this one at all, we found the peanut taste lacking despite the numerous chopped peanuts. The noodles were also kind of soggy and soft not chewy like we expected.

Shilin 05

Xiao Long Bao (P128/ 6 pcs.). I'm not a fan of xlb, a fact you'll hear often from me but for the first time I like the meat inside Shi Lin's xlb. Although, I love the meat the amount of soup inside was hit or miss, the one I got had enough, while the ones Grace got were lacking. We felt the flour covering was a little too thick, while the soup inside was inconsistent, if not this would have been quite good for us non-xlb lovers.

Shilin 03

Fried Pork chop (P140). Grace has a special diet wherein she does not eat chicken, so we ordered pork instead. This was quite a normal porkchop for me, not too bad yet nothing to rave about.

Shilin 04

Shrimp and Pork Dumpling (P128 / 6 pcs). The three of us liked this one the best, probably because the presence of shrimp adds a little crunchy sweetness to the dumpling. A must order again for us.

Shilin 01

Stir Fried Taiwanese Spinach ( P140). Our vegetable dish, I love all green leafy ones although I did not know there was spinach of the Taiwanese kind. Crunchy stalks and flavorful leaves had me eating almost half of the dish.

Overall, their dishes are hit or miss but the prices are reasonable so we will probably be back.
