Food Find: California Crunch Cassava Chips

I love eating chips and snacks of all kinds coupled with a cold soda, a perfect match for a night of movie and tv show viewing. So when I received an inquiry on whether I would like to sample some new snacks, I immediately said yes.

I was surprised to find out the new snack was California Crunch cassava chips in two flavors, Barbecue and Sour Cream and Onion. I'm not really a fan of cassava and its many iterations, but I kept an open mind since it was in crunchy snack form. I've had taro and sweet potato chips before but never cassava.

The Barbecue flavor was thoroughly coated with a red-orange colored powder. The chips are similar to ridged potato chips just smaller but still very crispy. I found the barbecue flavor's spiciness too much for my taste, the most i had were around 10 chips before I gave up.

I used to love eating sour cream flavored Pringles before but my tastebuds have veered off to the barbeuce and ranch side of things. I liked these more, the taste is very similar to Pringles but with a thicker crunch.
I think these pass my test and is going on my roster of snacks.

I noticed this on the top corner of the bag of cassava chips. 0% cholesterol and 30% less fat than potato chips sounds very good, doesn't it, means more snacks for me.

I was surprised to find out that cassava is comparable to potato nutritionally but has twice the fiber and has a higher level of potassium.

California Crunch Cassava Chips are available at SM Supermarket and SM Hypermart at P44.50 per bag of 120 grams. Hopefully this becomes available at our trusty supermarket, Pioneer Center soon since we rarely go to SM.
