Majid's Kabab in Davao City

Majid 05

We started patronizing Majid's Persian Kabab many years ago, when it was just literally a hole in the wall. Having moved to Manila two years ago, we only get to eat there whenever we go back to visit. This time, I was determined to visit the original branch, and was quite surprised that it was so big already. This is because we have not been there in a while, since we usually just go to their branch in Gaisano Mall because the original was alfresco.

The man behind the name is Majid Jadali, an accomplished actor and stuntman in the 80s. He played parts in both local and international film production working with the likes of Vilma Santos and Susan Sarandon. Majid is usually there at night at the J. Rizal branch, he is very approachable and would entertain and regale you with his cinematic exploits.

Goat Kebab (P45 each, minimum of 2 orders). Irene and my brother in law (BIL) both ordered this. All kebab orders are served with a grilled tomato and their home made pita bread. My BIL even requested a piece of grilled chili to be added to his order. The tomato is easily crushed and spread through out the kebab then drizzled with lots of yogurt sauce with a sprinkling of dried date powder.

I opted for a Tenderloin Kebab (P43), which had small pieces of beef. The beef was lean, tender and perfectly grilled while the tomato was soft and juicy. I proceeded to wolf down the whole thing in a few bites. The taste was still as I remember it, the pita was still soft and chewy. Perfect.

After finishing the tenderloin kebab, I still felt I wanted a little more. I had wanted to order the goat kebab but only wanted one order so I settled on Chicken Kabab (P35). Its grilled with a little seasoning but I added the dried date powder which gave it a nice color and added a sweet, roasted flavor.

I was full after that, we had planned to come back so I could have some Chicken Biryani but one thing or another scuttled those plans.

Through the years, the food at Majid's still tastes the same as I remember, so its no wonder the space has gotten much bigger that its 3 table beginnings.

Visiting Davao City, then Majid's Kebab is a must visit for the best tasting kebab in the city. Despite eating at a few Persian kebab places in Metro Manila, I still have not found one to beat Majid's Kebab
