After having tried Chef's Table, the first brainchild of Chef Bruce Lim and coming away with hits and misses, we decided to give to give Hyphy's a try. Located in the new Veranda area of Robinson's Galleria, Hyphy's is branded as serving SanFo-Philippine cuisine. I have no idea what it meant but decided to play it by the taste buds.
Scanning the menu we found out prices were much much lower than those in Chef's Table, hmmm interesting. We were thinking the pricing was so they could attract both the lunch and mall crowds.
I saw quite a number of things I was interested in ordering but with only one stomach I was forced to choose one. The winner was Bolognese ala Cubana (P190), a play on the classic dish but instead of rice, pasta was substituted. The meat sauce had an added kick care of spicy chorizo and topped with a fried egg with its golden yolk seeping into the pasta. I really liked it and the serving size was quite generous. They also serve this with two breadsticks, one was quite spicy though. I wish they had served fried bananas on the side to complete the pseudo Arroz ala Cubana.
We ordered Grilled Chicken (P230) for Lauren. She did not like it at all, so I took a stab at eating it to avoid wasting food. It was ok for me, nothing special but not really bad. The serving is quite small for the price though.
Irene's pick was the Calamansi Tuyo Pasta (P130, first pic).We were asked by the server if we wanted the tuyo (dried salted fish) shredded since it was to be served whole laid on top like the one from Chef's Table. To me the serving size looked the same so Hyphy's is the better place to get this dish since it tasted the same but looked better presented in Chef's Table.
Lauren wanted to get dessert after seeing Choco Chip Sandwich (P120) on the menu but it again did not meet her expectations. I took a little taste and will have to agree with her.
We're going to think really hard if we want to bring Lauren here again but Irene and I will sneak back by ourselves. We both enjoyed our pastas and we also want to try some of the things on the menu that piqued
our interest. After eating, I still have no idea where the San Fo cuisine really comes into play.
