Tapping my way to TeaTap Café in San Juan

Tea Tap 03

I spotted TeaTap Café being renovated a couple of weeks ago. From the outside I thought the place looked interesting and vowed to come back and check it out, we are always eager to try new places. Fast forward to yesterday afternoon, after a lunch date with The Food Club, we wanted to continue to chat while having some of our favorite milk tea. Fran having been to TeaTap the night before suggested we go there saying they had good milk teas. No need for further prodding upon hearing the words "milk tea" and owned by Kozui.

The place had quite a number of parking spaces, with a number of tables outside. I love the blue plastic chairs with wooden feet (I wonder where they got them). The outside was well shaded and had a nice relaxing vibe.

Opening the door, I was quite surprised to see a faux patch of grass with a feline welcoming committee, a theme that carries on throughout the store. I was also astonished at how big the place was, it can probably comfortably seat at least 60 people.

The feline theme is present again at the ordering counter with the cute plastic cat as well as the surprising tip bin.

On to our drinks, Irene ordered an Osaka Black Milk Tea (P105/grande) while I got a Paris Rose Black Milk Tea (P100/grande). They are still on a dry run so we got our drinks at 10% off.

Irene said her drink tasted similar to her favorite Okinawa from Serenitea. My drink was light in color, smooth and really had a hint of roses. The drink was a winner in my book or more appropriately my taste buds. We both chose pearls as our toppings, you only get one but its quite a lot. Our verdict was that its very similar to Serenitea's but still falls short of Chatime's, which we think is the best we've had so far. The cup seals are a very interesting read with different saying you should definitely watch out for.

They have some tea from Kozui on sale as well as some interesting items like cardboard speakers on display. There also a yogurt counter to be added in the future called "Simply Life" as well as some food items. I hope they add some of the stuff from Kozui like the anmitsu, so there's no need to trek to Tomas Morato.

Cozy atmosphere coupled with comfortable seats and of course yummy milk teas and promise of more food items in the future means we will definitely be back here in the near future.

We were told they would be installing Wi-fi, maybe the telco provider is slow installing.

  5. flavored milk teas have been popular in taiwan as early as the mid 90's. most of the 'tea shops' here serve tea by brewing in a machine similar to coffee machines but adjusted in brew time and temperature to tea. THESE ARE NOT AUTHENTIC TEAS AND MOSTLY ARTIFICIALLY FLAVORED ONES. just go to taipei food market and you can easily buy the flavorings. hokkaido powder is one of them. for those who really know their tea well, they travel to china or taipei for high mountain tea where a small cup of tea can set you back anywhere from 1k to 10k pesos. i am not discouraging anyone from places like serenity, chattime kozui teatap or bubble tea. just like to erase the misconception that bubble tea can provide any health benefits/ nutrition. these joints are mostly repackaged and glorified zagu or quickly.
