To celebrate the coming Chinese New Year, F Restaurant, the Best Western Premier F1 Hotel's signature restaurant, will be offering a special Chinese buffet menu from January 16 to 31, 2011. I got a chance to sample some of the dishes to be included in the offering.
It was my first time to step into the Best Western F1 Premier Hotel, the first hotel to be put up in Bonifacio Global City. The first thing that will definitely catch your attention are the unique circular shaped seating overlooking the pool area. The seats overlook the pool area and are upholstered in a bright and happy red color.
Plentiful Chinese lanterns adorn the ceilings of the restaurant and adds a celebratory touch to the coming holiday.
An assortment of appetizers started the meal, Boiled Peanuts, Jelly Fish, Cold Pork Knuckle, Beef Kimchi and Cucumber with Garlic and Chili Sesame. I liked the large boiled peanuts which were very similar to the ones from Tao Yuan. The jelly fish, cold knuckle and cucumber were what you would expect. The biggest surprise was the beef kimchi, at first I was hesitant to try it since I was not a fan of kimchi. Upon the prodding of Ivan, who exclaimed that it tasted like "bak kwa" or Chinese bbq jerky, I gave in hoping it was not too spicy. It was a tense moment as the slightly spicy textured pork hit my taste buds but I ended up liking it a lot.
Two soups were served to us, Seafood Spinach and Crab and Corn Soup. The seafood spinach was light and tasty while the corn soup was equally good also.
Noodles are ever present in Chinese celebratory meals and here to represent it is Fried Noodles with Sliced Pork, Assorted Vegetables and X.O. Sauce. A good blend of flavors to eat for a long life, as the Chinese tradition goes.
Hainanese Chicken was served next, but I missed my favorite dark soy sauce the most and was consigned to just add a bit of the ginger sauce.
Steamed Asparagus with X.O. Sauce.
Deep Fried Pork Ribs with Salt and Pepper.
Peking Duck. You read and see right, the buffet includes unlimited rolls of Peking Duck wrapped right in front of you. The quality of the duck is quite high considering you can get as much as you want. I'm happy to say that the hoisin sauce is also very good, approaching the taste of Peking Garden.
Sichuan Beef. The name definitely gives fair warning that the dish would be a bit spicy.
Lechon Macau. I gave a suggestion for them to serve this with mustard and sugar, which I had tried from Lugang Café.
Mango Sago. This was thicker than the usual mango sago, approaching the consistency of a half formed mango pudding instead. Despite the identity crisis, I liked, containing a generous amount of tapioca as well as being just right in terms of sweetness.
These dishes are but a peek at what you might taste, Chinese dishes will composed around 70% of the buffet spread. If the sneak peek I had is an indication of the quality of the rest of the dishes then this is definitely a good value.
The buffet is priced at P998++ and will be available from Jan. 16 to 31, 2011. A majestic Dragon Dance will welcome in the new year of January 23, 2011.
