Bono Artisanal Gelato is hands down the best gelato in the Philippines. Their recent award as no. 1 in Spot.ph Top 10 gelato spots cements that. I first encountered their gelato cart in SM Aura and was surprised when I visited again that it morphed into their most beautiful store to date.
Bono Artisanal Gelato is conveniently located in the Lower G/F area of SM Aura Premier. The store is lit with their familiar soft globes casting a warm hue on the counter. It is on the same level as the supermakret and a floor above the parking area. The store can be conveniently seen from all floors of the mall, shining bright like a beacon of indulgent desires.
They have a number tables with metallic, red and blue colored chairs to keep with the vibrant vibe of Bono. You can enjoy your cup or cone of gelato if not you can just have it to go and walk around spacious Aura.
The pozzetti counters hold a full complement of Bono Gelato flavors. The gelato is churned in SM Makati and transported to SM Aura but I heard they are planning to install one of the Cattabriga machines there.
This time around, Irene tried the Affogato (P180), a shot of Italian espresso is served with a scoop of gelato flavor of your choice. Irene’s flavor choice was the Bourbon Butterscotch, the flavor base of the Rogue sundae.
To eat/drink this, you just pour the shot of hot espresso onto the cold gelato and watch it melt and mix away. The coffee and gelato complements each other perfectly, the gelato taking shaving off some of the bitterness of the coffee. This hot/cold dessert will give you a little perk up as well as satisfy your sweet tooth craving.
I chose the Hatch 22, a collaboration between Bono Artisanal Gelato and Hatch 22, a cafe in Rockwell. The Hatch 22 is a Thai milk tea inspired, a taste and you’d taste it right away.
