Restaurant 5, the casual buffet dining restaurant of Discovery Suites undergoes an Asian makeover in both decor and food. Chef Luis Chikiamco, new executive chef of Discovery Suites, has crafted a daily lunch spread that covers some of the most popular pan Asian cuisines like Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Korean, Singaporean and of course Filipino.
I immediately noticed the different air of the restaurant once I stepped in. The vibe and color have changed the whole look of the space, making it feel more intimate and relaxing. Touches of green and orange relaxes the eyes together with the softer lighting.
One of the mainstays at Restaurant 5 is the salad bar. You get a bowl and put whatever fresh veggies, nuts and even shrimps you like, hand it off to one of the chefs and they’ll toss it with your choice of dressing.
This was my creation tossed in the delicious Asian dressing. I’m not really fond of salads but this was one of the more enjoyable ones with lots of crunchy textures.
I tried out the new Pan Asian buffet at Restaurant on a Friday which is designated as Singaporean. The live cooking area beside the salad bar featured chefs frying up samosa and grilling up some satay skewers.
The one dish that really surprised me was the Chicken rice, I would not expect a buffet to do the dish justice but it was really tasty. I had to stop myself from eating more and just content myself polishing off one bowl.
Thai pandan chicken made a special appearance, one of the better ones I’ve had in Manila.
Filipino cuisine sent out a pinakbet topped with chicharon as their representative. A mix of good and bad, yin and yang, having some vegetables assuaged the guilt of devouring the chicharon.
A plate of Seafood E-fu noodles represented Chinese cuisne.
We also had some Vietnamese Cha Gio (fried spring rolls).
Restaurant 5’s fixed buffet schedule. Just check this list to know what cuisine they will be serving.
