When I received an invite to an event called “Food From the Heart” by GMA-7 I actually did not know what to expect. The name sounded more like healthy food and cooking so I was quite surprised on the day itself.
What greeted us at the Highlands Coffee shop across GMA-7 was boxes and boxes of decadent baked creations.
The staff were telling me and a couple of other bloggers that this was the first food event they have organized since their experience lied in hosting entertainment functions.
Present were GMA-7 stars, Bettinna Carlos, Ryza Cenon and Chynna Ortaleza who each showcased their baking and culinary skills. Benjamin Alves, another star showed his support.
Bettinna Carlos brought her Nutella Rocks, which I first tasted in Ultimate Taste Test 10.0, Dulce de Leche Pecan Cheesecake Cups and a new Red Velvet Brownie with White Chocolate Frosting. These are available at select Moonleaf Teas Shops (The Columns, Ayala Makati branch, and Mckinley Hill, The Fort) and Rain Tree Teapresso Blends. For orders and inquiries, you can contact 0917-861BITE(2483).
Here’s Chynna Ortaleza modeling the Red Velvet brownie, heart shaped and launching in time for Valentine’s Day.
Chynna Ortaleza informed us that she has never baked before but open up the boxes she brought over and you’d be thinking that was incredulous. She whipped up a Cherry Pizza and Organic Banana Prune Walnut Bread. The pizza square has a tart bottom with cherry compote to play the part of pizza sauce and crushed macadamia as pseudo cheese. I really enjoyed the banana walnut bread, it was light and had lots of crunchy texture. I still can’t believe Chynna has never baked before.
Ryza brought Brookies, Cookie Butter Nutella, Red Velvet Whoppie Pie and Coconut Ferrero. I knew I’d like the coconut cupcake, and I was right it was light with lots of dessicated coconut flavor. The ferrero was just a topping that can be removed. I’m actually a fan of anything coconut except fresh coconut juice and meat. My surprise favorite was the brookies, it was gooey and was not too sweet. Overall, Ryza’s baked creations are not cloying sweet.
In addition to the boxes of pastries (1st pic), Ryza Cenon also brought packs of savory stuff, lasagna, buffalo wings and a mini spinach pizza. They were a welcome treat as we were being saturated with saccharine delights, the bites of savory balanced out our palates.
The most astonishing thing for me is how these stars can find the time to do time consuming baking projects. They said they bake and cook during their off days. I feel their co-stars and staff are the very lucky, since they regularly bring samples for them to try out. The event showed that the GMA-7 stars are more than onscreen talents, they are also talented in other delicious ways.
