Jasmine Restaurant is located at the newly refurbished New World Makati Hotel. The restaurant parades a new executive chef in Chef Wong Kam On. Incidentally, the brother of Chef Wong Kam Chung, who visited Jasmine 2 years ago. I got to try some of the specialties that Chef Wong Kam On brings with him.
Next dish was a Chicken Salad with Jelly Fish and Black Vinegar Sauce. Jellyfish strips adds a nice crunchy compliment to the julienned vegetables and chicken strips while the light vinegar dressing just ties it all together.
Pan Fried Beef Tenderloin with Barbecue Sauce. The beef pieces were tender and flavorful but cut a little too big for me.
Bailing Mushroom and Shrimp Mousse in White Sauce. A light departure from the strong flavors of the previous dishes. It felt a bit like intermission.
Braised Pork “Tong Bo” with Steamed Buns. A Jasmine restaurant favorite with super tender pork pieces that you eat with pillow soft steamed buns. This never fails to elicit a sense of comfort.
Fried Rice “Fujian Style”. A fried rice dish with a thick sauce with shrimps and vegetables laid atop. A dish by itself.
The highlight of the meal was the dessert called “Chef Wong’s Sesame Balls“. One giant deep fried sesame ball that is a bit intimidating once it is set in front of you. I was think how I was going to be able to finish this, with the notion that it was filled up inside.
Apparently, its hollow, so what you get is a sesame ball shell, the best part of the usual buchi. We actually gave them a little suggestion to serve it a la mode. A bit of ice cream just elevates it to a whole new level. Crunchy, hot and cold all alternating to give my taste buds a wonderful finish.
Jasmine Restaurant is in able hands as Chef Wong Kam On flexes his culinary muscles with both simple and complex dishes while adding a bit of whimsy thru his choice dessert.
