22 Prime at Discovery Suites in Ortigas is well known for their excellent steaks but they launched more affordable lunch specials. These well though our dishes are served ala carte and not part of a business lunch set since their diners want a quick meal. Executive Chef Gerwin Bailon has prepared 5 dishes that will suit everyone’s taste buds. These lunch specials are available from September 1 to 30, 2014 only, and will be replaced with a different set each succeeding month.
Start off with the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad (P325). Thick pieces of tuna with a nice sear all around served with a greens and cherry tomatoes and drizzled with a balsamic and pesto.
Veal Schnitzel with Marble Potatoes and Wilted Spinach (P1,200). Schnitzel is basically the European version of tonkatsu and is available practically everywhere. I remember quite a number of these during our trip to Europe eons ago. Pounded thin with an even coating that been fried to a nice crunch with nary an oily hint. Squeeze a bit of lemon to heighten the flavors, there’s hardly any need for the sauce.
Herbs Crusted Fish with Crushed Potato and Beans with a Spicy Tomato Sauce (P680). I recommend staying away from the tomato sauce because it really is spicy. Chef Gerwin uses an apahap fillet (local baramundi) but it actually depends on what’s fresh in the market. The fillet is flaky and mildly flavored that really absorbs the herb crusting well.
Chicken Mushroom Risotto with Parmesan Crisp (P720). My favorite among the new lunch specials, perfectly cooked risotto scented with truffle oil and paired with a piece of grilled chicken breast. The little parmesan crisp adds a punch of saltiness that seems to tie the chicken and the risotto together.
Cut of the Month. Each month 22 Prime highlights a lesser know cut of beef that is absent from their menu, for September it is the USDA Angus Prime Center Cut Sirloin (P2,200). 400 grams of beef. cooked to a perfect medium and served with house made steak, and Bearnaise sauces with twice baked potato and sauteed greens on the side. The sirloin is tender and beefy and is perfect with a little dab of my favorite Bearnaise sauce. The cut of the month is available for both lunch and dinner.
Coffee Tiramisu (P250). A traditional Italian dessert served with a stick of biscotti, no need for coffee anymore as the flavor permeates each layer.
22 Prime’s new lunch specials gives their menu a quick infusion of choices which gives diners new reasons to dine again. Whether it is a quick lunch or an indulgent steak dinner, 22 Prime has got something for everyone.
