My first time to encounter Main Street was in McKinley Hill but I rarely venture there so I was elated when they opened a branch in Kapitolyo. Main Street specializes in Pacific northwest cuisine, meaning the area from the coast Vancouver, Canada up to Seattle, USA. Irene and I love their food and have been planning on bringing Lauren to try but the plan never seems to materialize. The closer proximity should make that happen soon.
The Kapitolyo branch is way bigger than the first branch and even features multiple function rooms on the 2nd floor for private parties. Parking is also much easier with almost 10 space capacity in front, might be one of the biggest in the area.
Bacon Poutine (P230). One of the most well known dishes in Canada is the poutine, and it comes in 5 versions at Main street. This has a generous amount of apple wood smoked bacon bits in addition to mozzarella cheese and dark beef gravy. Perfect for sharing while waiting for your mains to arrive.
Moules Congolaise (P330). This bowl of mussels can serve as a shareable appetizer or as a light main course with the accompanying garlic bread. Mussels are cooked in a tomato, lemongrass and coconut cream sauce that will have you licking your fingers or ordering some rice to smother with the sauce.
Hoisin Baby Back Ribs (P385/meal, P495/platter). 8 hour braised baby back ribs with a honey hoisin sauce, served on a bed of mashed potatoes and a side of carrots. Above is the meal version with the platter version have more pieces of sliced ribs. The tender meat packs lots of smoky flavor that’s complemented by the sweet and salty sauce. This was the first time I tried this dish and should be a good option if you ever want a change from their buttermilk fried chicken.
Lamb Ragu (P360). Braised lamb shoulder with tomatoes and herbs tossed in fettuccine and finished off with Parmesan cheese. Irene loved this dish because most ragu pasta dishes were using beef which she does not eat. The meat was melt in your mouth tender and balanced out by the tangy tomato sauce.
Dessert was Creme Brulee and Fudge Brownie ala Mode. Both desserts were decent but nothing spectacular. I suggest getting your fill of the savory and moving to another spot for dessert.
Main Street injects a unique eating experience into the bustling food hub of Kapitolyo. Diners should try them out for the reasonably priced food and the abundant and easy parking.
