Paparazzi at the Edsa Shangrila is the only in house restaurant I’ve never been to in the hotel. The Italian fine dining outlet is helmed the young and vibrant Roberto Cimmino. Chef Roberto has created a 3 course lunch menu called Pranzo Squisito, perfect for business meeting as well as a light lunches.
There were only a few tables filled up while we were there, it’s popularity nowhere near Heat, Summer Palace or even Senju. Relax and enjoy the complimentary bread, which looks somewhat like a foccacia but is actually crispy inside. I’m not really a bread person but I could not help but eat this one, dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar or even just as is.
For starters, we had a choice of Robbie Blend’s for the soup of the day. It is a earthy soup made from shitake, oyster, button and shimeji mushrooms and nothing else. Simple and classic, a perfect complement to the bread.
The other choices were Manzo (Beef Carpaccio with classic condiments) and Gamberi Arrostiti (Roasted Prawns wrapped in Bacon).
The choices for main course was Filleto de Merluzzo (pan fried cod fillet), Porchetta di Maialio (roasted pork belly) and Pasta del Giorno (potato gnocchi with capers in tomato sauce). The fish was rather boring but that pork belly shows Chef Roberto’s creativeness as it seemingly looks and tastes like it could have come from Summer Palace. I had the gnocchi and it was tangy and rich and nicely done.
For dessert, I had the Zabaione and Biscotti, a custard like dessert made from egg yolks, sugar and wine. I know how hard it is to make this dessert so I always order whenever available. The yellowish dessert is nice and creamy with the chocolate shavings adding an extra layer of richness.
Other dessert choices were Hazelnut gelato and a plate of local fresh fruits. Coffee or tea is also included in the lunch set.
Pranzo Squisito is available for lunch on weekdays until September 30, 2013 at only P550++. I find the 3 course lunch set a great deal, a hotel quality dining experience that does not break the bank and even competes favorably with the mall next door.. For those like me who have never tried Paparazzi ever, the mall like price serves as peak into Paparazzi’s wonders and its safe to say I’ll be back for more.
