When we stayed in Holiday Inn Golden Mile during our most recent Hong Kong trip, we found it super convenient to have the iSquare Mall across the street. The place is a treasure trove of shopping, dining, and even is conveniently linked to the MTR. For one of our meals, we decided to check out what options are available and finally decided to try out Praise House after perusing the menu outside. The place is decorated in a modern Chinese look, clean with efficient although a bit hurried service as is the norm in most Hong Kong restaurants.
We ordered a couple of dishes, one of which was the Roast Pork and Barbecued Pork (HK$78 or P430). The barbecued pork is slightly red and in color but not a deep reddish one as is usually the norm. The menu had indicated that they did not use any artificial coloring. The meat was flavorful but some pieces were not as tender as we expected. The roasted pork on the other had a nice layer of crispy skin and the bit of fat gave lots of flavor.
I also picked Sweet and Sour Pork with Peach finding the addition of peach, unique. The peach a hint of sweetness to the thinly sliced crispy pork. This is how this dish should be done, its very hard to find this simple dish done well in Manila.
We ordered Fresh Meatball Congee (HK$34 or P188) for Lauren to eat with her barbecued pork. This congee dish is just one among their extensive list of congee variants they had on the menu. I tried the meatballs and they were good, the meat had a nice crisp that reminded me it was fresh.
We had tried a couple of dishes only and it was hit or miss. I’m tempted to come back and try some of their more exotic congee combinations next time.
