The Rockwell Ultimate Taste Test 3 was held last September 14,2013 at the Rockwell Tent from 11am to 9pm. I got there a bit late and as you can see the venue was already packed. Good thing I had tickets reserved because the event was sold out by 12:30. This was my third time attended the ultimate taste test held at Rockwell and this was way better in terms of purveyors compared to the one last year. The crowd also came earlier and in larger numbers because the weather was relatively good.
Here are my favorites from Rockwell’s UTT 3, in no particular order.
Diplahan Lechon – a lechon recipe that hails form Zamboanga. The meat is flavorful throughout and there’s just a thin layer of fat.
General’s Lechon – the other lechon purveyor is equally good but has a different taste profile. This one has a much stronger flavor that some may find too salty. I love the in your face flavor, goes perfectly with rice.
Malagos 65% Dark Chocolate – export quality chocolates from Davao that are so good I forgot they were not milk chocolates. Malagos also sells fine cheeses and cut flowers.
Schmidt’s Gourmet Hotdogs Wagamama – Japanese inspired with Japanese mayo coleslaw, nori and curry. The bun was soft, the dog was meaty and the toppings complimented the sandwich.
The Plaza’s Premium Baked Ham – a classic that brings back memories, with a little of their premium glaze on the side. They also introduced 3 new sauces but I did not even try but I heard many people seem to like them.
The Sultry Chef’s Sultry Roast Beef – Smoky beef goodness, just skip on their watery gravy and let the meatiness shine through.
Bronuts – I got to try the Blueberries and Cream and I its really good with flaky layers. The slight tartness really plays nice with the cronut.
Flavor Avenue’s Bagnet Paella – This was not my first encounter with this dish and it still impresses.
Uni Chef’s Catering’s Ube Macapuno cake – both flavors are strong yet play together in harmony. Not too sweet but nice and fluffy with just the right amount of icing.
GoldenducK’s Premium Duck Burgers and Sisig – a social project of Gawad Kalinga producing golden duck eggs, burgers and even duck sisig. The duck sisig was a bit spicy but the flavor is much stronger compared to pork. The duck burgers were the bomb. So good and you also get to help out.
