Torch Restaurant is known for serving dishes a little different for the Greenhills area, which teems with Chinese restaurants. Torch likes their dishes fried and touched by the blowtorch, hence the name. They’ve come out with a slew of dishes that keeps this theme going.
Torch Restaurant serves a lot of families for lunch and dinner and groups of friends in the late nights so this Appetizer Sampler (P495) is the sharing dish. It’s perfect for groups with different likes, with four kinds of appetizers there’s bound to be something for everyone. The sampler contains Truffle Fries, Tequila Lime Chicken Skin Skewers, Buffalo Asian Wings and Chili Cheese Crispers.
My favorite was the chicken skin skewers that had a nice citrus flavor balancing out the oiliness of the chicken skin.
Want something alcoholic and tropical to pair your food with, then Torch’s new Dragon Sangria (P899/ 3 to 5 ) should fit the bill. It has white wine blended with fresh dragon fruit, guava and others.
The Smoked Salmon Truffle Sushi (P450) is a beauty, arriving with a whole fried egg on top of deep fried maki. You can readily see the marks from frying making the outside of the maki a bit toasty. The sushi has mango, cucumber and kani on the inside and topped with wakame/seaweed and smoked salmon with a drizzle of truffle oil to finish.
The White Truffle Sausage Panizza (P430) is the newest addition to Torch’s menu. Grilled Italian sausage, mozarella and white truffle oil make up this simple but tasty pizza.
The Tartufo Pasta (P545) is a creamy mushroom pasta with truffle. A cream and truffle was a bit too heavy for me.
Burger Mac and Cheese (P335). This was a let down, its basically a burger pattie placed on top of macaroni and cheese and it was overcooked too. I think crumbling and mixing the burger into the macaroni mixture would have resulted in a better dish.
Fried Bread Pudding (P220). Torch’s penchant for deep frying things is evident in this new take on the classic. Sometimes it does not pay to mess with a good thing, bread pudding with ice cream is already good as is, deep frying just adds more oil and heaviness to it.
Torch Restaurant tends to go a bit truffle happy with their dishes so I’d recommend ordering carefully unless you really love truffle oil. Their dishes are hearty and meant to be shared, a perfect companion for hanging out with friends or family.
