Village Tavern has been one place that I’ve not blogged about for one thing or another. The first time I visited there, my flash conked out, leading to lousy pictures. One other time I forgot to bring a camera, dining our with the family. Finally, the stars aligned last month, when I visited Village Tavern with a few of my food gang.
There’s an old tavern feel as you enter, although the lighting is brighter than I expected. Big and comfortable furniture a number of booth chairs decked in deep red. Look up and you’ll see their funky antler chandeliers.
The Thai Chicken Salad (P475) is a nice started before diving into their small plates. Sliced greens and cabbage with sliced chicken, edamame, cucumber and crisp wontons tossed in a cilantro lime dressing and finished off with a drizzling of Thai peanut sauce. Refreshing with lot so texture and mouth feel.
After having some salad to get a little healthy into your system, move on to the tastier small plates. Crispy Clams with Spicy Lemon Dip (P375), Sesame Teriyaki Chicken Wings (P225), Homemade Jalapeno Poppers (P350) and the Fully Loaded Potato Skins(P240).
Partner your small plate appetizers with some beer or a glass of Tavern Margarita (P175) which Irene really loves.
Village Tavern touts their all natural 100% whole wheat flatbreads like the Tavern (P475) and the ever popular Gruyere and Smoked Applewood Bacon (P525). The Tavern has spicy pepperoni, mushrooms,green peppers, crushed hamburger,onion and mozzarella cheese.
The Cowboy Burger (P575) has barbecue sauce, applewood smoked bacon, onion and cheddar cheese. The beef patty has a nice meaty bite and does not crumble, just how I like my burgers. The bacon and the barbecue sauce add layers of flavor to complement the beef. Take your eyes off the burger for a bit and try out the basket of sweet potato fries on the side, well seasoned, crunchy on the outside but soft inside.
Village Tavern also has some lighter fare by lieu of the Snapper Hemingway (P500/single, P750/sharing). Fresh snapper fillet cooked in white wine, tomatoes, lemon and capers laid atop angel hair pasta.
Be sure to leave room for dessert. I love anything banana so the Banana Crepe (P395) really a hit with me. A bit different presentation and execution, the crepes wrap around banana ice cream and sit atop slices of fresh banana sitting in a pool of caramel sauce, another scoop of banana ice cream crowns it off.
Bet on red or black, its your choice. Red Velvet Cake (P425) or Black Velvet Cake (P425), both are towering pieces of cake meant for sharing. A rich and decadent finish to your meal.
