71 Gramercy is one happening night spot overlooking the city. Located on the 71st floor of The Gramercy in Century City, Makati, it affords one spectacular night time views of Makati and it’s environs. Clubbing is not really my scene and it’s something I can not understand as compared to good food. Good thing The Gramercy also has spades of that with Chef Carlo Miguel (Draft, Black Olive) manning the kitchen. You can even enjoy both the sunset and night views if you go early as the restaurant opens at 5pm.
We were invited to sample the newly revamped menu of 71 Gramercy with a host of food lovers.
We started with the Green Tea Cured Salmon, topped with arugula, feta, ginger and shallots. I adore salmon in its different forms, from raw to pan fried and anything in between. The green tea adds a subtle new flavor component that is best eaten combined with the other toppings.
One can’t go wrong with French Fine de Claire Oysters, served with mignonette granita and lemon. The granita adds an extra layer of cold that I really enjoyed. Perfect foil for your favorite alcoholic beverage or concotion.
The Prawn Salad is a simple starter paired with Guimaras mango salasa. Sweet flavors abound.
Tagliatelle Truffle. Truffle cream pasta with 62° egg, crisp proscuitto and parmesan. An enjoyable dish with highly appreciated crisp proscuitto for the texture and flavor contrast.
Pork and Lobster. Sauteed Maine Lobsters and braised Berkshire pork belly, a combination that strikes a health balance. The pork bellies were tender while the lobster meat were sweet and succulent.
Gramercy Burger with Foie Gras (P660). A well made burger consisting of US Angus chuck, rib eye and short rib, topped with Gruyere cheese, mushrooms and a decadent piece of seared foie gras. The burger is beefy and holds together really well between the brioche bun.
Breakfast for Dinner. Like me you can indulge your food fantasy of having breakfast for every meal. At 71 Gramercy they make a more refined version of breakfast that you can partake in with no one the wiser. A piece of home cured pork belly is the centerpiece of the plate with potato hash, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a 62° egg.
For a group of carnivores, the US Angus Choice Tomahawk would be perfect for sharing. Served with fritas, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Seasoned simply with salt and pepper and finished with parsley and a dollop of butter.
For lighter fare, the Chilean Sea Bass (P980) should be your choice. Pan seared perfectly keeping all the tasty juices in and topped on a potato and eggplant relish that you ignore to your regret.

After the slew of dishes, a quartet of desserts was served for us to sample. Legit Chocolate Cake (P290), five different textures derived from 3 kinds of chocolates, a chocoholics dream. Almond Tart, with strawberries, rhubarb and burnt butter ice cream. My Mom’s Apple Pie served with a scoop of Vanilla bean ice cream. Chocolate and Banana Souffle with butterscotch sauce and salty peanut ice cream.
Good food and great view makes for a great experience. Who would have known 71 Gramercy had both and is more than just a clubbing mecca.
