Did you know that the world’s best wines can be found in a Filipino-owned vineyard in Southwest France? Chateau Siran is located in the Bordeaux region, also known as the center of wine in the country. The estate has been visited by famous Filipino political figures such as the banker Aurelio Montinolla III, former Cabinet member Vince Perez and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Outside the vineyard, you will see a Philippine flag hoisted giving you an idea that a Filipino runs the place.

The vineyard is owned and run by Edouard Miailhe, a businessman and winemaker. He is a fifth-generation wine grower, Miailhe took over the management of Chateau Siran that was acquired by the family in 1859. His family is known to run a trading company in Manila, Philippines for many generations. Today, the younger Miailhe frequently travels to France and Philippines to manage all of their family’s businesses. Edouard’s father traded less in the Philippines but their real estates were kept in places like Binondo, Santa Ana and Escolta.

Main Products
The vineyard cultivates the grape varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. They also have Petit-Verdot, which is a variety of red wine grapes used to add color and spices up the wines that they make. If you enjoy drinking red wine from the M&S Wine collection, you will also find Chateau Siran’s products a good deal. Some of the famous products that are produced by the Miailhe’s vineyard are Chateau Siran, Saint-Jacques de Siran and S de Siran.

Wine Tours
Wine tours at Pessac and Sauterness will be greatly appreciated by travelers who are also wine lovers. During these tours, you can learn the nuances of Bordeaux wine when visiting famous chateaux like Sancerre, Gironde, Rothschild and Yquem. Aside from visiting the chateaux, you can also spare some of your time in going to French market places—another good reason to travel to France. You will see there a variety of breads, meats, terrines and cheeses that overwhelms many travelers.
