The Old Swiss Inn has been around since 1946, a magnificent feat considering some restaurants don’t even last a year. I think this is the first time I have tried the Old Swiss Inn so everything was a surprise. Mention Swiss cuisine and I bet the first thing that comes to mind is fondue but there’s a lot more dishes from German, Italian and French influences.
Goulash (P330). A hearty spiced soup with generous amounts of vegetables and beef.
Smoked Scamorza. This semi-soft Italian cheese is made by their sister company Pinkie’s farm. It’s treated like raclette so you get the same burnt top that enhances the flavors and releases more smokiness. I’ve never been a fan of raclette because of it’s peculiar taste but I can eat the scamorza any day.
Sausage Platter (P1,550). You get 4 kinds of sausages in this platter, schublig, veal, Hungarian and pork with sauerkraut and boiled potatoes on the side.
Gnagi (P860). Cured pork knuckled served boiled or baked with sauerkraut and potatoes. This dish is similar in style but different in marinade with the German pork knuckle. The skin has a satisfying crisp while the meat is flavor packed.
Fresh Corned Beef (P690). I was beyond ecstatic when I found out they had this dish on the menu. Corned beef brisket on a bed of cabbage and boiled and potatoes. I smear some horseradish on the corned beef before digging in and tell people to get their own order because I’m not sharing. Now I know where to satisfy myself when the craving hits.
Slow Roast Beef Belly. This was pretty good but I was already smitten with the fresh corned beef.
Herb Rack of Lamb (P1,560/300 grams). Irene doesn’t eat beef so she got this plate of beautifully cooked lamb. Australian lamb rack cooked with herbs and au jus gravy, served with potatoes on the side. I feel mashed potatoes would have been a better idea or a plate of rice to sop up all the scrumptious sauce.
Chocolate Smores (P650). A chocoholic’s dream, a warm and rich pot of Toblerone milk chocolate served with roasted marshmallow topped grahams. Be sure to save room for dessert at the Old Swiss Inn.
There so much more to Swiss cuisine and the Old Swiss Inn delivers with it’s old world charm, great service and excellent food.
