A few weeks ago I got to participate in an ice cream tasting adventure c/o Adam Lieber of Adam’s Seriously Good Ice Cream. Adam’s foray into the ice cream business came as an accident, to supplement the dessert selection of his fledgling new modern Japanese restaurant, Rose. According to Adam, it became quite a hit that people were flocking there just to try the ice cream.
If you follow my blog, you’ll know my forever love affair with ice cream, one food that I can practically eat everyday. So hearing the name and the story behind it got me all giddy to get over a simple lunch at Rose over with to get on to the main event. Little did I know it was going to be around 11 (yes you read that right) flavors in total albeit in small scoops.
Adam opened with a trio of First Lady’s Fantasy (background, specially crafted for a diabetic previous First Lady, it has dark and milk chocolate, honey and coco sugar. Chocolatey but not sweet. Strawberry Buko (middle), a lighter take on the classic almost like a sorbet. The Ambassador’s Butter Cream, made for former US Ambassador Henry Thomas, rich butter cream with organic Almond brittle mixed in. This is their runaway best seller, and it easy to understand why. The flavor is familiar yet has a jacked up flavor that is easy to love but hard to resist.
Next up was Figgy Blue (left), a strong and creamy blend of Bleu Cheese and honey-soaked figs, each one balancing out the other. I found the Cherry Banana (middle) interesting but was not really a fan. Katie’s Brew (right), dark Sumatran coffee mixed with Irish Guinness. this is an adult ice cream flavor, strong coffee flavor with malty tones. I was surprised to find that I loved the flavors of Katie’s Brew, not particularly a fan of coffee and a non drinker at that.
Next three was The Black Sesame Street (left), black sesame ice cream with a fun little name. I;m definitely not a fan of black sesame and it extends to ice cream. The Infanta’s Favorite is another easy flavor to connect with, custard with hazelnuts and cream. It’s like nutty leche flan in ice cream form. The Wasabi (right) was not to my liking as to be expected. My other tasting companions all seemed to like it, so if you have a love for wasabi, you’ll definitely like this one made with real wasabi root.
Chocolate Flame (foreground) and Don Ricardo’s Choice (background) finished off our taste test. With a low tolerance of spicy food, I skipped the Chocolate Flame but for a little taste. The Don Ricardo’s choice is a mix of Spanish wine and goat cheese. The two ingredient’s pair up for a nice mix.
I think you can surmise that my favorites were The Ambassador’s Choice, Infanta’s Favorite and the surprising Katie’s Brew. I can say Adam’s Seriously good ice cream are really that, but this comes at a price as they are priced higher than expected. Prices range from P495-795 for pints and P895 to 1295 for quarts.
