Akiko Japanese Restaurant

June 8, 2010 by Richard

We’ve been going to Akiko Japanese Restaurant for many years while living in Davao. It’s my daughter’s favorite Japanese restaurant. So it was our first stop once we arrived from the airport. It’s located in downtown Davao, part of the restaurant row of Victoria Plaza. My daughter ordered her usual Shoyu Ramen (soy based egg noodle soup), Irene also had the same while I had my favorite Omelette Rice.

The shoyu ramen came with one whole egg, a piece of “chasyu” (roast pork) and seaweed as well as lots of vegetables and bamboo shoots which makes the soup very flavorful. But once we tasted the noodle, that’s when it became different. The noodles were not the same as the ones they used to use. The noodles destroyed what would have been our favorite comfort food.

The omelette rice on the other hand was still the same. Ground beef cooked with sweet white onion wrapped in a large egg omelette served with potato salad and rice. Opening the omelette releases the steam inside and provides the opportunity to add tonkatsu sauce to the ground beef and onions. I like the mixture of the slightly tangy tonkatsu sauce mixed with the sweetness of the onions in each mouthful.

I would come back just for the Omelette rice. Their tuna sashimi is good also but we did not order them this time, we were in a hurry for our scheduled massage.
