Ambience Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan

January 11, 2011 by Richard

During our recent trip to Taipei, I was looking for a hotel to stay in when I talked to my cousin. He had just come from Taipei and stayed in Ambience Hotel. I browsed their webpage and was treated to beautiful room pictures with promises of plush contemporary design and furnished with designer pieces by Philippe Starck and Feruccio Laviani. So we decided to book 5 nights for our trip.

Fast forward to our arrival at Tao Yuan airport and pickup from E-go services then to Ambience hotel, the trip from airport to hotel took around an hour.

This big plastic bull sculpture greeted us as we opened the doors, coupled with the super clean and quiet lobby, we knew we made a good choice. The decor is predominantly frosted glass, whites and stainless steel giving a sense of calm when you see it. Check in was a breeze with helpful staff getting all our baggage since check in time was not until 3pm.

We had picked a deluxe room since there were 4 of us in the room, so it would not be too crowded with the extra bed (NT&1,200 with breakfast). Another reason was the presence of a bath tub, a special request by Lauren.

The bathroom was quite large with separate shower and tub area, all decorated in frosted glass and white mosaic tiles. It has a rainfall shower with very hot water even in the middle setting, probably set higher because of the winter season. Complete and ample toiletries from what looks like a fancy brand, Muguet D’Ogive, that I’m not familiar with.

Here’s where I parked my laptop beside a Kartell Feruccio Laviani Bourgie Lamp and a Kartell Philippe Strack La Marie chair. Both of these furiture pieces are dreams of mine to own, they are just very very expensive. Free fast wifi is provided throughout the hotel

A daily breakfast is served in the main dining area which can seat more or less 40, but it gets full quickly. The buffet spread is a mix of taiwanese and western food.

One of those mornings, since it was not that cold, we sat in their small garden outside. It was a great sitting outside and having our breakfast in a small pocket of green amidst the concrete structures.

There’s some nearby restaurants and a 7-11 although the MTR is a 10-15 minute walk away. Taxi are plentiful and not that expensive considering there were 4 of us.A drawback for us is that there’s no streetfood and shopping besides the hotel.

Overall, Ambience is a great hotel, it was quiet, the staff was efficient and super helpful for those directions to different places. We later found out a lot of celebrities stay here because of the privacy it offers as it only allows hotel guests to linger in public areas.
