It’s been a while since I’ve been back to SM Supercenter Pasig, so long it used to be called Hypermart. I was there to try a new hole in the wall burger place called The Great American Burger Joint. I walked all around the SM Supercenter and finally had to ask a guard before I finally found the place. You can get to the place much quicker by going in using the entrance fronting Tiendesitas or passing through Krispy Kreme, the joint is located behind it.
The place is very simple with a nice looking mural on side to complement the color scheme. There a counter up front where you place your order and I guarantee the first thing you’ll notice are the prices on the menu board. Their cheapest no frills burger is just P129. All their burgers use quarter pound patties except for the Juicy Lucy which is a half pound burger. All patties are ground and made in store daily so you are assured of freshness.
We started the tasting with the Loaded Nachos (P159). Looks like the usual nachos but look closely and you’ll see cubes of watermelon (???). I like the addition of watermelon, a fruit readily available in the Philippines, because it adds a refreshing sweetness that balances out the flavors.
On to the burgers, first one we tried was the Baja Burger (P179). It had salsa, cilantro, sour cream, jalapenos, and American cheese. Very similar in flavor with the loaded nachos.
Pulled Pork Burger (P195). This burger had pulled pork on top in addition to the cheese, jalapenos and sour cream. This was my favorite burger of the day, the pulled pork added a smoky punch that really went well.
Ranchero Chili Burger (P199). Chili con carne, cheese, bacon and bbq sauce are some of the best ingredients you can add to your burger and they are here. Might be a bit messy but who cares if its good.
Santa Fe Burger (P175). Soft and crispy textures by way of the fried onion and bacon mole (Southwestern influence). The sweet flavor of the grilled corn relish balanced out the multi spiced mole.
The buns are able to absorb all the toppings while the patties have a nice crust that both retain their shape throughout while giving one a nice juicy and beefy flavor.
If burgers are not to your liking then you might want to give their chicken wings a bite. Here’s the Lemon Pepper Wings (P199/6pcs.), a good combo of citrusy and peppery flavors.
Wash down your burgers and wings with their Malt Shakes (P129) available in Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry. They bring in malt powder from the US to give their offerings a slightly different taste. My preference is for the vanilla.
The Great American Burger Joint is a great value option to satisfy your burger cravings. There’s a good amount of choices so you can experiment and find what suits your taste buds but nothing that will make your wallet cry. Great after or before shopping stop in SM Supercenter Pasig.
