Bascon Café in Bacolod

March 8, 2011 by Richard

Bascon Café is the third dessert place we tried during our recent trip to Bacolod, the city of smiles and sugar creations aplenty.

When we got to the place, they were apparently having a buffet lunch but since we were there for dessert only, we trooped to the refrigerated display cases filled with single serve cakes seemingly calling us to each every one of them.

I decided on the Cathedral Cheesecake (P75, above picture), a light cheesecake with gelatin of different colors mixed in as well having a layer on top. Similar to a favorite dessert of mine, cathedral gelatin, named after the multi colored hues of stained glass in churches. I loved the mixture of the airy cheesecake with the gelatin. The sweetness level was also just right, Irene would love this too.

Triple Chocolate Mousse(P85). This cake reminded me of the eyes of a spider with the six chocolate drops on top.  I actually liked this one even though it was chocolate, since I actually am partial to mousses more than cakes.

Bubba Cake (P100), the Bascon Café best seller.Carlos and I both found this super sweet bordering on diabetes inducing. Carlos was also theorizing that this was the cause of his sore throat after.

Bascon Café is the third cake shop we visited and it was overall the sweetest one, so sugar lovers would probably get a kick out of it. The place was cozy, and even had some other seating amid nice flora. Maybe next time we could try their savory dishes which the other patrons seem to be enjoying.
