Big Better Burgers

June 22, 2010 by Richard

Last week “the club” got an invite from Eric Teotico thru Jane Uymatiao to try out BBB – Big Better Burgers in SM Cubao.
Big Better Burgers opened its first store in 2008 at the mezzanine floor ofVictoriaTowersin Timog. Since then they have opened three more branches in SM North,Fairviewand Cubao. They are also opening a fifth store in Filinvest Alabang, their first franchised outlet.

While waiting for the other members to arrive, we were served Potato Wedges with Quezoloco and Dill Onion Mayo. I liked the big pieces of potatoes and the quezoloco, a cheese pimiento like sauce, considering I don’t really like cheese I was surprised about liking this. I also tried the dill mayo; it was ok but nothing special after trying the quezoloco.

On to the burgers, all their premium burgers are made with 1/3 pound pure beef burgers that they perfected thru a long time of taste testing. Eric informed us that they initially sold the patties thru friends and bazaars but decided to discontinue this when they opened the first store.
I ordered the Bacon Barbecue Burger and shared it with Carlos who ordered the Shitake Teriyaki Burger.

Bacon Barbecue Burger, bacon, grilled onion and barbeque sauce. I like their bbq sauce a lot, its somewhere between the local sweet bbq sauce and the tangy western bbq sauce, just a nice blend of smoky flavor with an infusion of sweetness. The burgers were perfectly grilled, keeping all the juices in. The bacon strips were very crunchy.

Shitake Teriyaki Burger (no picture), shiitake mushrooms, grilled onion and teriyaki sauce. I had apprehension eating this since I don’t know how they would mix together. Once I had a bite, I found the flavors melding into each other, the sweet teriyaki sauce and the burger juices as well as the shiitake mushrooms. The only comment I had on this burger, which I had already relayed to Eric, was that the mushrooms were cut a little too big. It made it hard to make small bites on the burger since the mushrooms are chewier; you had to get one whole piece.

So go and try out Big Better Burgers.
