BonChon Chicken at Ayala Triangle Gardens

November 18, 2010 by Richard

After our meal at Wee Nam Kee at Ayala Triangle Gardens, we passed by BonChon Chicken on the way to the parking area. We asked to look at the menu for a flyer for BonChon Chicken from a waiter but he came back with a box of chicken wings. The free taste got our taste buds going that we immediately scheduled a meet up for The Club the following Tuesday (a holiday).

The place was quite nicely arranged with the counter to one side highlighted by 2 led displaying their menu. One side of the restaurant was covered in wall stickers with playful designs. I being a little OC, noticed a substantial crease when they installed the stickers. (hahaha)

We were the first ones there so we immediately got a small table and told them to add some more as they become available.

Chicken Chops (P185) for for pieces which is the small size, coated with either soy-garlic or hot and spicy. We opted for soy garlic, the same flavor as the wings we tasted the other night. The chicken chops were as crispy as the wings yet still tender inside. The soy garlic was salty yet sweet, the best of both worlds.Irene and I really loved this since there were no more bones involved but the crispiness and taste were still there.

We also ordered a medium Chicken Combo ( P365), which included 3 drumsticks and 6 pieces of wings also in soy-garlic since we were not sure how spicy the hot and spicy coating was. The wings were very nicely done but we felt the drumsticks lacked flavor probably because it was a bigger piece of meat so the marinade did not really reach deep inside. We would skip this next time.

Lauren did not like the taste of the soy-garlic so she stuck to her order of French Fries (P45) and chicken chops with the skin removed.

Another item on the table was Bulgogi Rice (P125), consensus on this was it was forgettable.

I also got to try a little piece of the Hot and Spicy drumstick skin, all I have to say is I’m glad I stuck to soy-garlic. It was super spicy for me and even Jane who can take spicy food commented it was very spicy.

Overall, the chicken was excellent, the skin stayed crispy even after being cooled down by the air conditioning. I will excuse the mix up in the food and service since they still on soft opening status. If after a couple of weeks and they don’t correct the quirks, I thinks that’s when I would start to complain.

I glad that BonChon Chicken is finally in Manila and we can finally taste the “Voted Best Chicken in America”.  I had my taste and will be coming back for more in the future, now its your turn.

We have a branch here in the Bay Area, but I can’t wait to taste this branch when I go to the Philippines. Thanks for sharing

Chicken wings tasted ok but it was extraordinarily crispy. :) Liked Soy Garlic more than the spicy ones.

Visited the Ayala Triangle branch and took some pics:
