Prosperous Platter at Brotzeit

February 1, 2017 by Richard

Brotzeit, a popular German bierbar restaurant introduced a Chinese New Year platter. This bountiful platter is meant to be shared with family and friends to usher in the prosperity of the lunar new year. The platter consists of 3 mains and 3 side dishes and priced at P2,980, good for 3-4 people, available until February 5, 2017 only at all Brotzeit branches.

The centerpiece of the platter is the Roast Chicken. The chicken is marinated in lemon and herbs and slow roasted so the skin is crisp and very flavorful. You can even see the whole lemon that’s been stuffed inside peeking out. Don’t miss out on the trio of mushrooms which are recipients of many of the roasted chicken flavor.

The Oven Roasted Pork Belly, served with beer sauce. The skin is roasted to a crisp but surprisingly lean and well seasoned. The meat has lots of alternating layers of fat and meat that gives it great flavor without the cloying taste. I suggest getting some pickles to contrast with the fat and skin. Be sure to order some of their beer on tap, my favorite is the Paulaner Hefe Weisbier, a cloudy yet light wheat beer with a slightly sweet finish.

Last is the 2 good sized pieces of Salmon Steak. Nice outer charring and flaky meat make for the lighter part of the platter. Just a squeeze of lemon and it’s perfect.

The platter comes with sweet potato mash and Chinese cabbage in garlic cream sauce on the side. The platter is a bit heavy on the protein and I feel it lacking in carbs so I suggest ordering a plate of their excellent Cheese Spatzle to complement.
