The Mid-Autumn festival is happening on Oct.4, 2017, what better way to celebrate than with mooncakes. Shangri-La at the Fort’s Canton Road recently released their line of premium mooncakes. Chefs from Canton Road collaborated with the hotel’s pastry chefs to create 6 variants, a mix of traditional flavors and western inspired ones priced at P388++ per piece.
The two most unique variants are Strawberry Cheesecake and Black Forest. The Black forest has softened maraschino cherries and fudge ganache while the strawberry cream cheese feels like eating a cheesecake enveloped by a traditional mooncake skin, perfect for those not fond of mooncakes.
Flaky Pineapple is reminiscent of Taiwanese pineapple cakes but stuffed inside a flaky mooncake shell.
Classics flavors are still available like the Flaky Red Bean with Pine Nuts, White Lotus with Salted Egg Yolk and savory Chao Zhu Minced Pork. The minced pork mooncake felt like having a mooncake crossed with a dimsum item, good but different from what I’m used to.

We also got to play around in the kitchen as we tried our hand making our own mooncakes ably guided by a Canton Road pastry chef. I have to say it is so much harder than it looks but fun to finally find out how mooncakes are made.
