The Peninsula Manila will be holding a month long event called “Celebrate Chicago” to rejoice the stylish renovation of sister property, The Peninsula Chicago. The event will run from Nov. 2 to 25, 2015 and will give Manila a taste of the Windy City.

The lobby will feature a Chicago Skyline photo exhibit by William Furniss.
I got a little taste through a cooking class with Chicago native Executive Sous Chef Franco Diaz who demonstrated two Chicago favorites, deep dish pizza and Reuben sandwich.
This was my first time to encounter real Chicago deep dish pizza and it was a meeting I’d like to enjoy again. There is no short cut to authentic deep dish pizza as each pie takes almost 45 minutes to cook in the oven. Chef Franco made a simple Mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce pizza with loads of butter laminated into the dough. I’m drooling as I remember the taste of each piece of the pie.
Next up was the Reuben sandwich in between fresh rye bread with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Some of us even got to help out assembling the mini sandwiches.
The Lobby will serve Chicago hot dogs, Reuben sandwiches, chicken pot pie, duck hot dogs, and salted caramel sundae.
Escolta will feature a Chicago burger station, deep dish pizzas and Eli chocolate, peanut butter and strawberry cheesecakes.
Salon de Ning and The Bar will relive the history of Al Capone with a series of Prohibition era cocktails like Hanky Panky, Monkey Gland and The Gunner.
The Gunner is a non alcoholic mocktail, one I really enjoyed for it’s refreshing flavors. It is the only real Hong Kong cocktail perfect for the humid weather of South East Asia.
