Charlie’s Grind and Grill in Kapitolyo was long considered a hole in the wall secret among burger lovers. Located beside a carwash, it was not the most cozy or clean of places but the food kept drawing people back.
Now Charlie’s Grind and Grill has opened a new branch in accessible Greenhills. It’s new branch has ample parking and outdoor seating where you are safe from water splashes.
They may be know for their Angus beef burgers but Irene and I go back for their Buffalo wings. Since both of us are not really spicy food lovers, we order the wings in their Honey mustard sauce. Served with a siding of veggie sticks and blue cheese dip.
One saturday night, we met up with some friends to check out the new branch. Good thing one of them got there early and got a table since it was filled up when we got there.
We decided to order some of our favorites as well as some new stuff. No meal at Charlie’s is complete without our Buffalo wings and Cheese Fries. The buffalo wings in the new branch looks a little more burnt compared to the old branch (first picture) The cheese fries that was served not only had less cheese sauce on top it also had some onions which I think were meant for the Chili fries. We were too hungry to complain about the onions, I also gave them a little leeway since they are still on a dry run that time. Next time I won’t be as forgiving.
Our friend J wanted pasta, so we tried their Meatball Marinara on Pasta (P270, pictured above), 5 large sized Italian sausage meatballs on top of tangy tomato sauce pasta. We were all pleasantly surprised at how much we liked this dish. The noodles were cooked al dente, the meatballs were full of flavor and balanced out by the tanginess of the sauce.
K, on the other hand wanted a burger but I suggested ordering the Cheese Steak (P395, pictured above) instead. Its beef slices sauteed with onions and bell peppers and topped with cheese sauce. This sandwich was very big and to think its the small size only.
Overall, it was a great dinner with friends we haven’t seen in a long time despite the few misses with the food. Eating is really more than the food, although good food helps set the mood. its more the conversation with friends old and new.
One of these days will give the Greenhills branch another try and see if they’ve settled down. In the meantime, the Kapitolyo branch is a stone’s throw away when the Buffalo wing cravings hits us.
