Coco Ichibanya is the biggest curry rice restaurant chain in Japan. The UCC group has brought it over to our shores with the first branch opening last March 1, 2015 in Estancia Mall, Capitol Commons.
It’s high time for Japanese curry to become popular here. They’ve been served in most Japanese restaurants as an additional menu item but only recently has curry rice restaurant begun popping up like Izumi Curry and Eri Curry.
How to order at Coco Ichibanya Philippines.
Step 1 – Pick your desired amount of rice. The standard amount (P180) is 300 grams, order 200 grams and they deduct P20 but every 100g extra is an additional P40
Step 2 – Choose your curry spiciness level – Mild to Crazy HOT!
Step 3 – Pick your toppings or you can choose from some of their suggested pairings.
Step 4 (optional) – Upgrade your order to a set meal with choices of soup, mini salad, drink or dessert. 2 choices (P80), 3 choices (P100), 4 choices (P130).
Irene’s order was the Cheese Curry (P260) with extra Pari Pari Chicken (P130) and Japanese Sausage (P130) and only 200g rice (-P20). The pari pari chicken is a breading less fried chicken that gets it’s flavor from a special marinade.
Look at how gooey the cheese, rice and curry mixture. The cheese adds heaviness to the curry plate but it’s so good that you wouldn’t care at all.
I went the mostly seafood route with the Clams, Spinach and Ripe Tomato Curry (P390). I added a Shrimp Cutlet (P180) and my own order of Japanese sausage (P130) with 200g of rice (-P20) also. My spiciness level was Medium Hot and I felt the highest level I could take was Hot. The sausage are so good, each bite yields a little snap. It is Coco Ichibanya best seller so far.
You would think that the shrimp cutlet would be made from finely minced shrimp but in reality it is made from large pieces of chopped shrimps. The sweet flavor is retained as well as the texture of the shrimps.
Irene and I opted to do the 2 choices Set Meal (P80) add on. I picked Iced Lemon Tea (P100) and Dessert (P100) while Irene picked the Iced Lemon tea (P100) and Soup (P100). They give you gum syrup with your iced lemon tea because it’s just made of tea, lemon and ice with no sugar at all. I recommend adding 1-2 packs of the gum syrup depending on your tastes. The soup of the day was tomato soup with macaroni. The ice cream they serve is FIC, 2 scoops (1 cookies and cream and 1 strawberry) plus a few pieces of canned fruits. I highly recommend getting the set meal options, it’s a great deal.
A popular curry option is the Cheese Hamburger Curry (P360) or have it as a side order (P180).
Other options at Coco Ichibanya are the Omelet Curry but you can’t customize the rice portion and can’t take the out also. The also have Japanese gratin made of white sauce, cheese and curry with different toppings. There is a single rice plate that has no curry called the Beef Hash but it would be quite peculiar to go to a curry restaurant and not order curry.
I’m beyond happy that I finally get to try Coco Ichibanya and the first branch is at most 10 min away from me. We’ve never eaten at curry restaurants in other countries because Lauren does not eat it. I’ve already devised a way to bring her to Coco, she can order any curry plate with toppings. I’ll just request them to separate the curry and take it home with me and eat again.
*A second branch of Coco Ichibanya will be opening in One Rockwell soon. *

Wow, this looks super amazing! I wish places like this would open in London too!
you can have this in SG when you move there.
Looks like a place to go for curry lovers. Hope to check this place out on our next trip to Manila.
Definitely the place to go for curry lovers, even just a plate of curry with cheese will satisfy your cravings. Maybe by then they’ll have more branches so it’s more convenient.
Great post! Hmm.. now I’m tempted to try out the restaurant this weekend. Can you tell me a little bit more about the pricing? So the P180 is just for the rice only, wala pang topping? Or are some topping choices already included in the P180? For example, what kind of toppings?
So if I wanted to order the Shrimp Cutlet.. that would be P180 for the rice, P180 for the Shrimp Cutlet and +P130 for the 4-add ons? So budget of around P500 per person sounds about right, but just wanted to make sure.
Sorry for the questions, just really interested in going :) I haven’t been to Estancia Mall yet. Thanks again for the awesome post!
Yes, your math is spot on. The P180 includes the 300grams of rice plus the rich curry, (-P20) if you opt for less rice.P500 or so depending on the number of toppings you choose.
Thanks!
Your photos have me craving and missing CoCo Ichibanya so much! The texture of the cutlets or seafood with the combination of the curry sauce is just amazing. I will never not love going there especially to try the highest spice level too! I hope you’ll be able to check out and comment some of my reviews here: http://nyamwithny.com/tag/coco-ichibanya/ I am attempting to go to every country on my world tour and see what’s different in the sauce, the toppings and the spice!
