Tech Tales: Crumpler Pleasure Dome Review

December 4, 2013 by Richard

I’m a self confessed Crumpler bag addict, having bought them from Singapore even before they were available locally. I decided to buy a new camera for travel after having a lousy time lugging my main camera around Hong Kong last August. My new camera of choice was the Fuji XM-1 so that means I had an excuse to get a new Crumpler bag. I was looking for something small and compact to be unobtrusive while traveling so I headed over to their new branch in Shangri-la Plaza’s East Wing.

The bag I decided on was the Crumpler Pleasure Dome Small (P1,650) and I also got a Crumpler Hitch camera strap (P850). I can never have too much Crumpler stuff. I got the black with red accents since it would keep clean longer.

The camera fits snugly and feels well protected inside the pleasure dome with a little more space in case I attach a longer lens. There is a small pocket to place small items like extra batteries or memory cards.

There are three ways to carry the Crumpler Pleasure Dome, the first is by carrying it like a small bag by the handle.

The second and most convenient way is to use the included sling and carry it on your shoulder.  There’s a third way, by attaching it to your belt, which I don’t recommend as it feels bulky at the waist side.

I can also use my neglected Soup and Salad messenger bag since the new bag can fit inside while assuring me of ample protection for the camera. I can also put an extra shirt, jacket and other travel stuff.

The camera came with a faux leather strap that was a bit uncomfortable to use so I got a Crumpler Hitch camera strap in Lt. Grey. The Hitch is very comfortable and the fabric even wicks out sweat perfect for the tropical climates.

There’s a loop that attaches to the camera with no plastic parts so there’s no chance of accidentally scratching the body.

I loved the new store especially the Crumpler straps that drop down from the ceiling like a curtain of green.

While looking around the store for my new bag, I could not help but notice that there are a lot more bag styles available. Aside from the camera and laptop bags, they also have fashionable bags for women, travel bags and even new trolley camera bags. I also inquired about those camera facsimiles and found out they look and weigh the same as the real world products. You can use them to find the perfect bag to fit your gear and even feel the heft with everything inside (genius idea).
