Crystal Jade Dining In BGC celebrates the Mid Autumn Festival with two set menus and exciting games. The Mid Autumn festival is one of the most important celebration by the Filipino-Chinese with many holding get-togethers. Crystal Jade Chinese master chefs has created a six course special menu to celebrate the tradition. The set menu for 4-5 persons is priced at P3,800+ (originally at P5,000) and the one for 8-9 persons is priced at P7800+ (originally at P10,000) both will be available from September 1-30,2014 only.
The people from Crystal Jade Dining In invited us to try out this special menu as well as some special surprises after.
Our first course was Jiang Nan Crispy Sliced Chicken Wrapped in Pancake, the cooking and eating is similar to how we consume Peking Duck. They serve this three ways with the first way being meat wrapped in pancake.
The waitstaff did all the wrapping for us and as you can see they are quite adept at doing it.
The final product, we just need to pick up the ready made pancakes with our chopsticks and eat away. Peking Duck is still superior in flavor because of the fat it has but this Peking chicken is pretty good too especially with the crispy skin.
Shredded Chicken with Fresh Fruit Salad. The meatier part of the Peking Chicken are mixed with cubed watermelon, melon, apple, and mangoes and drizzled with mayonnaise. Light and tasty but I wish they added candied walnuts or another nut to add a different texture that would have elevated this dish.
Fried Garoupa Balls with Sweet and Sour Sauce. Garoupa or lapu-lapu, sliced and battered, deep fried then coated in a balanced sweet and sour sauce. The garoupa fillets curl up like a semi ball and is coated with just enough sauce to still keep it crispy.
The last of the three way serving of the Peking Chicken was the soup, Poached Chicken with Wintermelon and Beancurd. A very refreshing and light soup but tasty because of the chicken bones and stock they use.
Sauteed Shrimp with Broccoli Flower. Crisp shrimp sauteed over high wok fire with bright green broccoli. I think I ate almost half of the veggies since no want was quite interested in them.
Braised Homemade Beancurd with Mushroom. This dish is a vegetarian friendly dish that I would not mind eating. I love all the components of this dish, from the beancurd that’s absorbed all the flavors of the sauce to the crisp bok choy top the earthy mushrooms.
Crystal Jade Fried Rice. This is a healthier version of the usual Chinese fried rice, only egg white are used in this one. This has risen to the top of our de rigueur fried rice order in Chinese restaurants, I’m glad more places serve it now.
Dessert was no surprise, mini mooncakes with lotus cream. I love the mold the use to make the mooncakes, deep lines make for a pretty detailed top.
We were in for a little fun, the people from Crystal Jade prepared some prizes for us to play a mini version of the traditional game. We’ve been playing this for years so the rules were already ingrained in us. What was exciting was for our companions who were playing it for the very first time.
Everyone had a blast with people bringing home lots of prizes. Richie and Rina got their beginner’s luck going, bagging the top 2 prizes.
Diners who will also get a chance to win some prizes as they can get 1 roll of the dice for every P5,000 minimum spend. P1,000 Crystal Jade GCs are at stake for luck dice rollers.
