Deco’s Original La Paz Batchoy was started in La Paz, Iloilo by Federico “Deco” Guillergan Sr. It has since delighted many people in Iloilo. Through a partnership with Mang Inasal, it has been brought to Manila.
I honestly have never eaten batchoy in my life, I’ve always found it unappetizing until now. Irene loves it and orders it when available. So when she said she wanted to try out Deco’s in Alphaland. I gamely accompanied her not expecting to like it.
Special Batchoy (P67). I ordered the smallest one afraid of what I’ll get. Once the bowl was laid down in front of me, I knew this was not like any other batchoy I’ve seen. The bowl of noddles was laden with overflowing topping that I was initially afraid to mix it up for fear of things spilling over. I liked the “meke” noodles that was suggested by the order taker saying this was the original, although you could also have it with misua or bihon. All the toppings were good, I even ate the liver ones together with the pork and pork rinds (still very crispy despite being dunked in the soup). The only thing we did not like is that it was not served hot.
While researching for this post, I found out that there was unlimited hot soup near the entrance as well as toasted garlic and other condiments. I should remember to check those out next time. I was very happy with my batchoy initiation and hope they open more branches in the metro as Alphaland is a hassle to go to. Guards in the mall are also of no help, so if you are looking for Deco’s, just ask them where Mang Inasal is. Mang Inasal is just besides them and you can also cross order from them.
