Delicious Kitchen in Hong Kong

October 16, 2011 by Richard

Delicious Kitchen is a little place we used to traverse the MRT over to Causeway Bay just to have their double pork rib rice. I was quite happy to find out from Fran that there was a branch in our favorite Tsim Tsa Tsui area. Now there’s no more need to venture so far away.

We’ve eaten countless times at the Causeway Bay branch and many a time has seen tourists from the Philippines trooping in, sometimes even meeting some one we know. Our guess is its because a lot of people from Manila love the Causeway Bay area and word of mouth has led them to this quaint restaurant with “English” menus. English menu are not the common in most small Hong Kong eateries and the presence definitely draw the tourists.

Before going there, I had checked online maps to pinpoint exactly where the branch is since its not a road we pass by. Armed with the directions, Irene and I went out try out the place.

Since this was just  an afternoon snack, sometime around 4, Irene and I decided to order two things. Scrambled Egg White with Shrimps and Pine Nuts was the first to arrive, glistening with a light coating of oil. The shrimps and pine nuts added a dash of color to the plain looking dish. The shrimps were plump and crisp while the pine nuts had a nice crunch, both matching the soft egg white perfectly.

No meal is complete at Delicious Kitchen without the Double Pork Rib Rice. Since we were sharing we decided to get the double pork rib rice, the difference from the single order is an extra piece of pork rib/chop. The ribs are served in a separate plate but if you order the single rib, it would be served rice topping style. The rib is very tender and sweet with a strong ginger taste (not so popular with Lauren).

This is served with a cup of vegetable rice, very light white rice mixed with bok choy (Chinese pechay).

We quickly got our own servings and proceeded not to talk to each other, savoring our favorite a bite at a time.

The pork rib rice and even the restaurant name has spawned a copy cat version from our local Eat Well Delicious Kitchen. The copy cat does not hold a candle to the original from Hong Kong, it does not even begin to satiate our craving, in fact it just amplifies it, that’s why I never order it anymore.

Delicious Kitchen is a nice go to place for that perfect Pork Rib Rice, but they also have quite an extensive menu that try as we might to explore, we always get sidetracked ordering our favorites.
