Delightful Delish

August 29, 2010 by Richard

I got an invite to try out a new restaurant in Maginhawa (comfortable) St., in Teacher’s Village called Delish. I did not have any inkling where the restaurant was located nor what food it served. Good thing I had an able navigator (Carlos) with me or I would have been lost like some of the other bloggers. I was amazed at the lively food scene on that predominantly residential area.
Delish gives off a nice comfortable vibe punctuated by paintings done by UP students on the wall. A quick switch of the lighting transforms the place into the perfect hangout place.
A nice looking soup, Squash and Mushroom Duo, started off the evening of delightful surprises. I love both soups by themselves but was actually not sure how they would mesh together. After having a taste and experiencing the harmonic meshing of the two made me muse why I’ve never seen this in other restaurants.
Another hit with me and the other bloggers is their version of the Sisig. The eschew the sizzling plate and fresh egg, instead they top the sisig with scrambled eggs. It is a nice departure as I really hate sizzling plates, they keep on cooking the food even after its served to you. The sisig was very crunchy and covered in a sauce akin to cream but not as heavy.

Baked oysters were served next in two varieties, Spinach, Bacon and Herb and Garlic and Cream Cheese. I love oysters but I usually avoid baked one since I want to feel and taste the ocean in my oysters. Among the two I loved the Spinach version, it tastes more flavorful and I loved the way the spinach was roughly chopped that you can still taste it.

I think I was full just from the appetizers and soup but good thing I tried the Asian Crispy Chicken with Honey and Garlic. If you’ve been reading my other entries you would surmise that I love my food on the sweet side and this dish was no exception. The skins was very crunchy and the marinade was seeped all throughout the chicken while the garlic bits gave it a nice contrast. I liked this so much that I asked for another order since I just got a small piece from the plate.

It is nice to going to a new place without any expectations as one can be pleasantly surprised. Delish served good food at reasonable prices with great ambiance to boot.
