One of our favorite places to get dimsum in Manila is at Shang Palace in Makati Shangri-La. They also have the Dimsum Plus promo for unlimited dimsum during weekday lunches. They’ve recently offered dimsum during dinner service for a limited run from May 2 to June 30, 2017. They decided on breaking the tradition on serving yum cha/dimsum only during lunch time because of diners looking for lighter fare.
The dinner dimsum menu is a mix of the familiar and the uncommon like beef stomach with curry, red bean paste dumpling coated with green tea powder and mango rice roll.
Our taste of dimsum nights started with Steamed Pork Dumpling with Fish Roe (P228/4 pcs) or commonly known as siomai. These are the best in manila for me, juicy with meaty pieces you can taste and a crunch that signifies no extenders.
Steamed Crystal Skin Shrimp Dumpling (P258/4pcs). This is another one of our dim sum staples and Shang Palace’s is excellent. Thin but strong skin with crisp, fresh big pieces shrimp tucked inside.
Steamed Spinach Dumpling (P188/4pcs). Tinted green because of both the spinach wrapper and minced spinach inside together with chopped shrimps. A slightly healthier version of the hakao
Steamed Beef Balls (P188/4pcs). Cooked with the middle medium so it keeps everything juicy but still possesing punchy beef flavor. Don’t forget to eat the tofu skin sheets at the bottom because they’ve absorbed all the juices.
Lotus Leaves Pearl Chicken (P208/3pcs). I only usually eat one piece of this because the glutinous rice is pretty heavy but I had to restrain myself because these were so good. Each piece is aromatic from the lotus leaf wrap and contains a generous amount of salted egg and chicken pieces.
Barbecue Pork Pie (P198/3pcs). Oven baked flaky pie with saucy chopped pieces of roast pork inside. It’s different from the ones from Tim Ho wan and Tuan Tuan but very tasty also.
Deep Fried Spring Rolls (P208/3pcs). Crispy and filled with shrimp, mushrooms and vegetables.
Radish Cake. Shang Palace does it a little different, cooked crispier and topped with house X-O sauce.
Still not full from the dimsum, then get some Braised E-Fu Noodles with seafood (P1,188) or a plate of Yang Zhou fried rice (P688).
Finish off with Baked Mini Egg Tarts (P188/4pcs). The crust is flaky and very buttery with a jiggy, custard filling. Careful on your first bite, they are fresh from the oven.
