Dojo Dairy Japanese Ice Cream

February 8, 2014 by Richard

One of the perks of writing about food is that sometimes people send you stuff to try like the wonderful people from Dojo Dairy. You know my love for ice cream, so was I happy when they sent over cups of Blue Cheese, Green Tea, Seaweed, Miso Sake, Strawberry Banana and Wasabi Light. Their philosophy is to use the best ingredients possible at the best possible time.

The first flavor I tried was the safest, Strawberry Banana. The ice cream was smooth with a creamy tastes that lingers. I brought out my LEGO ninja minifig to pose with the Japanese centric packaging. The packaging is black and white with surprising geometric patterns. The labels are colored coded and you can clearly see the flavor.

I was too chicken to try the other flavors so I took the opportunity during last year’s KTG Christmas Party to share my unusual ice cream flavors from Dojo Dairy. The gamely tried despite a bit of trepidation from reading the flavors.

The Green Tea was pretty good while the Seaweed was surprisingly not as weird as I expected. Miso Sake tasted nothing like I imagined it would, I thought it would be a bit bitter but it actually tasted a bit like salted caramel. The one I least liked was the Wasabi Light which I had already expected.  I enjoy Blue Cheese in pizza and burgers but I could not reconcile the taste in ice cream, it was too different for me.

I had heard good things about their Black sesame and Lemon flavors but will have to head to Little Tokyo to have some.
