EDSA Beverage Design Group is one of the newest players in the 3rd wave coffee scene in Manila. It is located in a nondescript building, which houses the EDSA Beverage Design Studio, on where else but EDSA. They not only serve coffee but also cocktails concoctions, since some of the people behind The Curator are also behind this venture.
To get to EDSA Beverage Design Studio, once you pass Connecticut going South on EDSA, look for the Shell Gas Station with a Shakey’s in it. The CLMC building also houses a Metrobank and is the building before Kamayan/Sambokojin. There was still no signage as of my visit, so the pic above should serve as a guide. There’s a few parking spaces in front but you can also park behind on Florida St.
As you enter through the big wood and glass door, you see “manong guard” manning his table in style as well as a coffee roasting machine and other equipment.
Head on up the steel staircase and you’ll reach the coffee and cocktail bar area.
Philippine Barista Champion Kevin Israel Fortu was on hand so I skipped my usual latte to had him make an Aeropress Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Cherba (P100) for me. I loved it.
Irene got here usual Espresso with Milk/Latte (P120). She enjoyed the coffee but did not like the glass it was served in.
They’ve got some shelves on the side, one half of which was filled with a hodgepodge of items like beer bottles and what not. The other half contained coffee beans and coffee equipment and paraphernalia for sale.
Irene and I both liked our drinks at EDSA Beverage Design Group but felt the ambiance a bit off for us. We felt like we were intruding on the going-ons in someones office with all the people moving around plus the space was a bit warm.
