El Gaucho Argentinian Steakhouse opened their first branch at the Trump Tower in Century City, Makati. It’s the most popular steakhouse in Vietnam and now has branches in Thailand, Slovakia, Germany and Hong Kong. Parking is easy in Century City Mall then exit thru the doorway beside Conti’s and then a very short walk to the corner to get to El Gaucho. The restaurant has a “gaucho (horseman)” theme so you’ll see lots of brick walls with heavy wooden furniture and beautiful lighting accents giving it a relaxed atmosphere.
Start off your meal with a complimentary serving of house baked bread served with roasted garlic, herb butter and salsa criolla. I don’t usually eat bread before a meal but the crusty and aromatic bread went so well with the salsa criolla.
Beef Empanada (P490). A flaky crust with flavorful beef filling, served with side salad.
Caesar Salad (P890), a classic salad done right with generous amounts of bacon.
Salchicha (P490). House made spicy Argentinian sausage served with side salad. I was a bit hesitant at first about the spiciness but it was just was just slightly spiced. If you want more chorizo/sausage I suggest ordering the Provoleta (P690/990), which comes with grilled provolone cheese, tomatoes and oregano in a hot skillet.
Their home made sausages and steaks are available for take away butcher at the butcher counter. They source their angus steaks from the US and wagyu from Australia.
El Gaucho Steak (P990/100 grams). This is a bone in USDA prime angus steak, cooked medium rare, flavored with only salt and pepper then cooked expertly. A delicious piece of steak, strong beef flavor with a nice, tender chew.
They’ll cut the steak table side and put the fattier parts and the bone on a hot plate with a burner. This allows the fatty parts to caramelized more for a crusty burst of beef flavor.
Grilled Lamb Chops (P2,190/2,390). This was far and away my favorite dish for the lunch, and maybe one of the best grilled lamb chops I’ve ever had.
The side at El Gaucho are also excellent especially the Sweet Potato Fries, Creamed Spinach and Potato gratin.
- Heisse Libre
- Lemon Cheesecake
- Dulce de Leche Crepe
We finished off lunch with a quartet of desserts, Heisse Libre (P550), Lemon Cheesecake (P550), Dulce De Leche Crepe (P550) and Flan Caramel (P490). All of the desserts were good but nothing approaching being worth the price. I’d suggest getting dessert and coffee someplace else.
The give all diners a complimentary shot of their El Caramel, a caramel infused vodka, after the meal. I skipped this but my dining companions loved it.
El Gaucho serves excellent steak in a relaxed atmosphere with top notch service but all these things come with a price but I’d readily bring Irene over to have another plate or two of the lamb.
